If the Springfield Falcons are “playing the Blue Jacket system” they must be watching films of The Blue Jackets at the end of last season. If you recall, last year much of the goal firepower came from the defense. Last night in Norfolk, the baby Jackets [sorry Springfield] applied that formula, getting 4 goals from their defense in their 5-2 victory. A bit of good news is that John Moore got another goal, but even better news is that Tim Erixon got one also. Why is that to great? Well last year in his initial AHL season Erixon had 3 goals for the season. This year in 14 games, he has 4. And it was acknowledged that he started the year slow, coming off an injury and of course starting with a new team/system. So he is picking up steam. We are seeing him on the score sheet both in goals and in assists.David Sevard and Nick Holden also D men also got goals, and both played at Columbus last year.
Both Moore and Erixon would be projected as members of the Blue Jackets if a NHL season were to start. Particularly since Ryan Murray has an injury whose extent is unknown, but is likely to take some time to heal.
Speaking of “if a season were to start”, negotiations are to resume Monday “late” . Maybe there is a plan– finally. I along with many others had hopes about 2 weeks ago, but this time it actually sounds like there may be a plan, as the talks were restarted after proposing a 2 week hiatus.
Springfield is starting to rotate some players into the lineup as the season progresses. This has to happen as it the NHL were to restart, a lot of the Falcons firepower would be returning to Columbus.
I am beginning to enjoy Mike Kelley who is the Falcons game announcer. he does both the play-by-play and the color. I love his “Holey Moley what a goalie” call several times a game when a great stop is made.
