As Columbus hockey fans know, Wednesday 10-24-12 the Blue Jackets announced that John Davidson had been hired as president of hockey operations. Make note of the date, It could be a landmark day for the Blue Jackets. In his
inauguration introduction speech. Mr Davidson said exactly the right things. This should be a surprise to few. After all, after years in the sportscasters chair and having sat in the same Presidential chair with the Blues, he is a polished speaker. The St Louis position in particular has provided him the experience of putting the right spin on his words. There were no reports of him kissing babies and only a few reported sightings of him walking across the Olentangy River. We are waiting on details from hospitals to determine how many babies were named after him.
In all seriousness, much is and has been written and recorded recounting John’s attributes and skills. I’d like to mention what this means to the fans and the Blue Jackets right now.John is not destitute, he has no “need” to have a job. This job is a decision.
- Craig Patrick, the Jackets senior adviser, and John have been friends and associates for “40 years.” This relationship may be a key to Davidson even coming to Columbus. Considering that this would be a “no BS” relationship between friends, Craig had to have given John a positive report on Columbus and the Blue Jackets and the ownership. That is [a] the city, [b] the team, and [c] the ownership and the commitment for winning.
- Because this is a decision, not a “necessary” John has to be satisfied with the entire organization and that any area is not an overbearing prohibitive negative. The current team, the future team being the current prospects and future aka drafts, must have decent potential.
- We in Columbus are used to winning, Ohio State has shown us the way. We expect to win. John recognizes that and used the winning word so many times in his interviews Wed, that it obviously is a key part of his mentality.
- Nationally, some snicker of Columbus as a hockey town. Locally we fans take great exception to this. We know hockey lives here and just needs a winning team to ignite the hole city.
General Davidson will command the Blue Jacket troops, from top to bottom——We want the cup!
