As pointed out by other and by myself in previous posts, The good part about the lockout is the opportunity to give the younger guys a chance for experience. As per the press release below, these 2 top “up and commers” are going to be playing at Springfield in the AHL. And the AHL will be an enhanced AHL as all teams will be sending their top young players to the AHL, so good experience should be had by all. As noted in the press release, their training camp opens 9-28, which was yesterday. The post below is from the AP.
Blue Jackets send 20 to AHL Springfield Falcons
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned 20 players to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Mass.
The players assigned to Springfield include forwards Cam Atkinson, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, Matt Calvert, Michael Chaput, Sean Collins, Oliver Gabriel, Jake Hansen, Ryan Johansen, Tomas Kubalik and Dalton Smith; defensemen Anton Blomqvist, Tim Erixon, Cody Goloubef, Austin Madaisky, John Moore, Dalton Prout, Theo Ruth, David Savard and Will Weber; and goaltender Allen York.
The move allows the players to get work while the NHL and players association negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement.
Springfield, in its third season as the Blue Jackets’ AHL affiliate, is scheduled to open training camp Sept. 28.
Also, Note that John Davidson and the SL Blues have parted. Could he still be coming to Columbus? See Hub post and this from The Dark Blue Jacket, HIRE JOHN DAVIDSON!! NOW!!
