The Battle of Rick Nash vs The CBJ Wishlist

by Blue Jackets

The concept of trading Rick Nash struck Columbus like a bomb. Immediately there were 2 sides. Yes get the assets and trade him, and no, he’s the face of the franchise keep him. The 2 sides make good points in the yea – nea back and forth of opinions. As everyone pretty much knows by now, there is an approved list of teams that Nash has provided for giving up his no trade contract. But the

problem is that a team in contention for the playoffs, doesn’t want to give up that many assets to get 1 player. [ many teams do not even have all the assets that Columbus wants, let along be able to spare them] MLB and the NBA sometimes work out 3 team trades, so it is possible that something could be done in that area. If so, it could be a team on the list and contending plus another. Therefore to me it is more likely that a Rick Nash trade will not be made until summer.

The other night on “Fire the Cannon” pod cast, Lori Schmidt made a huge point. The longevity of a hot goaltender is not very long. True there are many veteran long time goalies, but not too many have been the  #1 goalie for their team for many years. At best the performance seems to go up and down and for many, including Mason it is up and then down. So, Rick Nash could be playing long after the sought after goalie has come and gone. It boils down to the fact that there may be no such thing as a franchise goaltender, except in rare cases.
